Haloumi or Halloumi is a fabulously delicious cheese of Cypriot cuisine, widely known in Europe, is a favorite in Greek cuisine. Halumi cheese is made from a mixture of sheep's and goat's milk, sometimes it may contain cow's milk. The texture is similar to mozzarella, has a slightly salty taste. The peculiarity of the preparation of this cheese is that, due to its higher melting point than other cheeses, it can be fried to an appetitively beautiful dark golden crust. Fried Haloumi cheese is used as a filler in various salads, it can also be served separately with fried vegetables. It is combined with slices of smoked lamb or pork.

How to fry cheese?

1. Prepare the ingredients.

2. Halumi cheese should be cut into slices no more than 1 cm thick. Then dry the pieces with paper towels. Next, put the slices of cheese on a plate and carefully lubricate both sides with olive oil.

3. Preheat a non-stick frying pan over high heat.

4. Fry the cheese in a hot frying pan over high heat until each slice has a golden brown crust. Approximately 1 minute on the first side and 1-2 minutes on the other side.

5. Put the fried Haloumi cheese on a plate. Cherry tomatoes, mint leaves and freshly ground black pepper are very suitable for garnish. This side dish perfectly emphasizes the taste of grilled cheese, and mint has a natural antibacterial property, which increases the shelf life of the cooked Halumi.

When cooking, the cheese should soften, but the liquid should not flow out of it. You can poke the cheese with a fork to check its consistency.

Try to eat cheese on the day of its cooking, without leaving it for the following days. Since the cooled fried Halumi cheese becomes quite hard.
