Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 12 h
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to freeze lingonberries? To begin with, the berries must be collected. Lingonberries can be harvested not quite ripe, with a white side. It, like cranberries, can ripen if you put it in a dark place. But do not keep it in debt, it may dry out and shrivel, although it does not affect the taste. It is best to collect it in dry weather, away from roads and busy highways. Then the berries will not have to be washed, which is not recommended before freezing.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

    Carefully pick the berries.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

For freezing, take any baking sheet suitable in size so that it enters the freezer. Cover the baking sheet with a film and scatter the berries in a thin layer. It will not stick together and this will allow you to easily pour it later. Put it in the freezer for 10-12 hours until completely solidified.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

I can offer two options for storing frozen lingonberries. The first is to pour frozen berries in bags with a zip lock. The bag is almost buttoned up and try to squeeze out the air, close it completely.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

The second and best, in my opinion, is a vacuum. To do this, I specifically purchased a non-expensive device. It does not take much time, berries, fruits and vegetables do not absorb foreign odors and take up much less space. This is perhaps the most weighty argument for those who have a small freezer. The only drawback is special packages, but they can be used several times.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Be sure to sign packages, it's very convenient. I would recommend berries in small bags, 1-2 times, to use immediately, and they are not scattered all over the refrigerator.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

You can use such lingonberries both frozen and after defrosting, depending on the recipe.

Follow the basic rules so that your harvest is stored for a long time and without problems:
- carefully dry the berries, even if they are small
- remove any debris, dirt, earth from them
- get rid of rotten berries.

It is very convenient to make labels on packages with home freezing, where to indicate what is frozen and when (write with a pencil, since ink from the pen may leak). So you will surely know the shelf life and easily find what you need in a full freezer.
