Bean patties

Delicious and nutritious bean patties almost like with meat! Many people cook beans as a side dish for meat or other dishes, but not everyone realizes that it can act as an excellent alternative to a meat dish, for example, as bean patties. Bean cutlets from the first bite taste even difficult to distinguish from meat. They turn out to be just as dense, tasty and satisfying, however, the bean mince is a little dry and crumbly, so when frying you need to add more vegetable oil, then they will turn out juicy and strong.

Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 2 h 20 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

To prepare bean patties, prepare the ingredients. The beans need to be soaked overnight so that they swell well. You can use absolutely any bean: red or white, according to availability. The color does not affect the quality of the cutlets. Breadcrumbs can be purchased at the store or ground from ordinary breadcrumbs through a coffee grinder.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Rinse the beans thoroughly, fill with water, leave overnight. Rinse the swollen beans thoroughly again, fill with cold water and put on fire. Cook for about 40 minutes, add salt at the end of cooking (add salt to taste). Cook for about 5 more minutes. Turn off the heat, drain the water, but not all, leave part of the broth.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Peel the onion and carrot. Finely chop the onion, grate the carrots.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan. Put onions and carrots on it, fry until lightly browned.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Transfer the vegetable roast to a saucepan with beans. Add spices to taste: salt and ground black pepper. If desired, you can add some greens.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Use a blender to turn the contents of the pan into minced meat. Pour the breadcrumbs into a plate. Take a tablespoon of minced beans, put it in a plate with breadcrumbs and form a patty. Make the cutlets not very thick, so that they are well saturated with oil during frying and do not crumble. Beans take as much oil as necessary, distribute it throughout the mass, so you should not be afraid that it will turn out greasy.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Pour vegetable oil into the pan. Lay out the finished cutlets. Fry for about 20 minutes, until the cutlets are browned, on both sides. Carefully remove the cutlets to a plate. Serve with fresh vegetables and sour cream as an independent dish or as an addition to meat. It turns out very tasty. Bon appetit!

Any oils are useful only until a certain temperature is reached - the point of smoking, at which the oil begins to burn and toxic substances, including carcinogens, are formed in it. Important! An incorrectly selected frying pan can ruin even the best recipe. All the details on how to choose the perfect frying pan for different dishes read here .

If you use ready-made spice mixes, be sure to read the composition on the package. Often, salt is already present in such mixtures, take this into account, otherwise you risk over-salting the dish.
