Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 16 d
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

We will need grapes first of all. It doesn't matter what color it will be, but the sweeter the grapes, the better. You can make moonshine without adding sugar, but then the process of making braga for distillation will take 1-2 weeks longer. In addition, with the addition of sugar, the amount of finished moonshine will be 30 percent more.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Do not wash the grapes in any case. The surface of grapes contains a lot of bacteria that are necessary for fermentation. And again, you can do without yeast, but the brew itself will begin to ferment much later and the time for making moonshine will be delayed. Put the berries without twigs in a fermentation tank and mash with a press or, for example, a pusher.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Take fresh pressed yeast. But replacement with wine yeast is also acceptable. Break up the yeast, add a spoonful of sugar. Pour in some warm water. The water should be unfiltered and not boiled, - it should be alive - only such water promotes fermentation.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Wait for the foam cap to form and pour into the fermentation tank.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Add the remaining sugar, water, mix and put a disposable glove on top. Put the fermentation tank in a dark, warm place. The temperature should be at least 20 degrees.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

As soon as the glove inflates, the fermentation process has begun. It can last for 10 to 16 days. This time my fermentation lasted 12 days. As soon as the glove deflates again, the braga is ready for distillation.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Prepare the moonshine still. If your equipment is provided, connect hoses with cold water.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8.

Strain the braga and pour it into a moonshine still.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9.

Put the moonshine on the fire. As soon as the temperature is 75 degrees, turn on the hoses with cold water. Collect moonshine in a separate container. Moonshine after the first distillation is already ready for use, but I recommend making a second distillation. To do this, dilute the finished moonshine to a strength of 20 degrees (take 400 ml of pure water for 1 liter of moonshine). Pour into the moonshine still and repeat the distillation procedure.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10.

During the second distillation, the first 100 ml and the last 100 ml of the newly obtained moonshine must be collected separately and poured out, because the first and last portion is the most rich in fusel oils and can be dangerous for consumption. Pour the resulting moonshine into bottles and let it brew for 3-4 days. You can tint it with a drop of tea leaves. Observe the measure when drinking alcohol!
