  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to make gooseberry jam? To make gooseberry jam for the winter, take an equal amount of berries and sugar. To do this, weigh the gooseberries. You will also need some water (about a third of a glass). It is better to use ripe and fresh gooseberries, preferably immediately after harvesting. Any kind of gooseberry will suit both red and green. Red contains more vitamins and nutrients.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Wash the gooseberry berries well under running water, dry them with paper towels. Cut off the dry tips and the remains of the stalks. With this, ordinary nail scissors are perfectly fused.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Put the prepared gooseberry berries in a saucepan with a thick bottom. Pour 5 tablespoons of water (1/3 cup) so that the gooseberries do not burn to the bottom of the pan. Put the pan on medium heat.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Gooseberries release juice very quickly. Cook the berries until soft for about 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Then remove the pan from the heat and chop the gooseberries using an immersion blender.

Cover the berry puree with sugar, mix well. Put the pan on the fire again.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Boil the gooseberry jam for the winter over medium heat for 15-20 minutes. At first, until the sugar is completely dissolved, constantly stir the jam with a wooden or silicone spatula.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8.

While the gooseberry jam is cooking for the winter, prepare the jars. Wash them with soda. It is not necessary to sterilize. The main thing is that they are clean and dry. But just in case, I always warm up the cans a little over steam with a special metal ring that fits on a pot of water, and boil the lids for five minutes. Pour the hot jam into the jars and immediately tighten the lids. Wrap the jars with a blanket or towel and leave to cool.

To make gooseberry jam even more fragrant, some housewives add one or two oranges twisted in a meat grinder to it during cooking. But I prefer to cook a simple classic gooseberry jam.

The recipe for such a gooseberry jam for the winter is simple and does not take much time to prepare.

Bon appetit!

Remember that spices such as salt, sugar, as well as vinegar and its substitutes are used in recipes for winter preparations not only for taste, but primarily as preservatives. Therefore, in no case should you reduce the concentration of salt and sugar, and also replace vinegar (essence) with a weaker concentration than indicated in the recipe, otherwise vinegar (salt / sugar) will not show their preservative properties and the workpiece will be spoiled.
