Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 1 h 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to cook kutya for Christmas? Prepare the products. Which wheat should I choose for kutia? Buy peeled wheat. It is more convenient and more reliable to buy already processed wheat in the store, packaged in packages. It is already steamed and ready for cooking. Rinse the wheat 6-7 times. If the grain is unpolished, soak it overnight in cold water, it will become softer and cook faster.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Steam the raisins, dry them. Chop the nuts with a knife, fry in a dry frying pan (about 1-2 minutes), peel off the husk by rubbing between the palms. Instead of walnuts, you can use almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, peanuts.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Put the washed grain into a saucepan with a thick bottom, fill with water (400 ml), put on medium heat, covered with a lid. When it boils, remove the foam. After 10 minutes, add salt. Reduce the heat to minimum and continue to cook until tender. The seeds should turn out soft, crumbly. If the water has evaporated and the cereal is not ready yet, add some hot water. If the porridge is ready, but the liquid remains, wrap the pan tightly so that the wheat steams.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Wash the poppy from dust and debris, throw it on a sieve, let the liquid drain. Transfer to a saucepan, fill with water (70 ml), mix. Simmer for half an hour on low heat. When the water in the poppy is boiled and it becomes thick, pour in another 50 ml. Mix it up. The poppy should languish slowly, boiling or bubbling should not be allowed. Now grind the finished poppy together with sugar in a mortar, blender or scroll 2-3 times through a meat grinder. It should turn out "poppy milk".

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl (wheat, poppy seeds, raisins, nuts), add natural honey to taste. If desired, you can pour uzvar or boiled water. Serve the kutya warm.

If you were preparing kutya from unpolished wheat, add honey just before serving, as such wheat from honey can become hard.

Which honey is best suited? Take any natural honey (floral, lime, mustard or mixed herbs). Thick honey can be pre-diluted with warm boiled water or uzvar.

How to steam raisins correctly? Pour well-washed raisins with hot water and leave for 10-15 minutes. During this time, it will become soft. Drain the water and dry it with paper towels.
