Classic crumpets

Cook yourself the same crumpets that you had as a child! Classic crumpets taste not at all distinguishable from those that used to be available to buy on every corner. Now the taste of crumpets is not the same, but what prevents them from cooking at home? The process is not complicated, although it takes time, and relatives will surely like such a sweet treat. The most time-consuming stage is kneading the dough. If you use a bread maker to knead the dough, the process of making crumpets will become much easier.

Cooking method

Cooking time: 4 h 45 min

First we will prepare the dough:

- sift the flour and mix it with yeast,

- add salt and sugar, mix everything,

- break the egg to the flour mixture, then pour water,

- knead the dough, knead it for 5-7 minutes,

- add soft margarine and knead the dough for another 10 minutes - it should become quite docile, soft,

- form a ball from the dough, put it on the bottom of a large saucepan, which we cover with a clean cotton towel on top,

- leave the dough in a warm place (at room temperature) for three hours - during that time it will increase in size several times.

When the time has passed, we knead the dough again and leave it for 15-20 minutes again. After that, we lubricate the work surface with vegetable oil, spread the dough and roll it into a layer. Not too thin, on the contrary - lush, one and a half to two centimeters thick.

Using a round shape, we cut out circles. Now we take a small round shape and cut a hole in the center in each circle. If there are no forms, you can use a bowl and a glass. We will cut large circles with a bowl, and make a hole in the crumpet with a glass.

Pour vegetable oil into a saucepan with a thick bottom, heat it over medium heat. We lower the dough pieces into boiling oil, fry on both sides for 2-3 minutes (until golden and golden brown).

We spread the finished crumpets on a wide dish covered with paper towels. This is necessary so that excess oil is absorbed and the finished dish is less greasy.

Then sprinkle the slightly cooled crumpets with powdered sugar and serve to the table.

Bon appetit!
