Turn on the oven, preheat to 180-200 degrees.
Heat the butter in a frying pan, put out the onion in it, cut into rings - until soft (so that the onion becomes transparent).
Grate potatoes on a coarse grater and mix with fried onions, add salt, add a pinch of pepper and marjoram (if there is no marjoram, then you can without it).
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan with a thick bottom and put the potato-onion mixture there, forming a thin pie from it. Fry (without stirring) for 2-3 minutes. on high heat, then turn down the heat, cover with a lid and let it fry for another 10 minutes.
In order to fry the second side of the casserole, it is necessary to put a flat plate on top of the casserole and abruptly turn the casserole over on it, after which we carefully return the casserole to the pan with the uncooked side and continue cooking in the same way as the first side.
When both sides of the casserole are fried, spread the casserole on a baking sheet, sprinkle with grated cheese and put in a preheated oven for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.
That's it, the casserole (they call it potato pie at home) is ready.
