Chokeberry jam with apples

Extraordinary jam with the awesome aroma of autumn. The jam turns out to be maroon, with a unique aroma and astringency inherent exclusively in aronia prune. No other plant known to me gives similar notes in taste. This treat will please real connoisseurs of natural delicacies.

Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 2 hours
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

To make jam, prepare the following ingredients: aronia fruits, sweet and sour apples, water and granulated sugar. Rowan can be used both fresh and frozen. It is even believed that frozen plants have the most delicious fruits. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to get a fresh black fruit, then freeze it in advance.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Pour filtered water into a saucepan of a suitable size with thick walls, pour a third of the sugar and pour the washed fruits of aronia without petioles. Put the saucepan on medium heat and, without covering it with a lid, cook for about forty minutes after the syrup boils.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Wash the apples under running water and remove the seed pods. Cut the apples into medium cubes. So they will be better guessed in the finished jam in shape, since the color of the apples will eventually be aronia, that is, maroon.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Add the apples together with the remaining sugar to the pan, mix. If you are the lucky owner of a cherry tree in a suburban area, then at this stage you can add a few cherry leaves to the pan to flavor the jam.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Cook the jam under a closed lid on low heat for about forty minutes after boiling, stirring occasionally so that it does not burn. Due to the fact that everyone has different cooktops, as well as the dishes in which the jam is cooked, the cooking time can vary significantly.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

It is worth focusing on the consistency of jam and its desired density. In any case, it should not be very liquid and drain from the spatula like syrup. The jam should thicken well, and the apple slices should become soft.

Jam can be tasted immediately after it has completely cooled down. But it would be better to put it in clean, dry jars and let it stand in the refrigerator at least overnight.

Store such jam in the refrigerator, but no longer than two weeks, maximum. For longer storage, there is a method of preservation using sterilization of glass jars.

Bon appetit!
