Cooking time: 45 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

So, to prepare this dish, you will need: red beans soaked in water in advance, onions, sunflower oil, hops-suneli seasoning, salt and hot ground pepper. The beans should be well soaked and swollen, they may even burst the skin. But this is not necessary and directly depends on the variety. This time I soaked the beans for as much as fourteen hours!

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Peel the onion and chop it into a small cube. Heat the sunflower oil in a frying pan and fry the onion until golden brown.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Discard the red beans in a colander and allow the water in which the beans were soaked to drain. Add the beans to the pan with the onion. Fry the beans for seven minutes over medium heat.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Salt the dish to taste and add the hops-suneli seasoning. You can not regret it, since this Caucasian seasoning goes well with beans. Especially with red.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Add water to the pan and reduce the heat to a minimum. Simmer the beans under a closed lid for half an hour, stirring occasionally. In any case, the beans should become soft when broken with a spatula. If required, boiling water can be added to the pan during cooking.

The features of cooking beans are such that they require soaking and quite a long stewing. But don't let it scare you, because the result is worth it!
A budget and very satisfying dish of beans with onions can be served with any sauce based on ripe tomatoes.
Along with a few others, in the Orthodox fast, bean dishes are practically the basis of the diet. This dish is perfect for vegetarians, as beans are a storehouse of B vitamins.
In addition to hops-suneli, you can add a garlic clove grated on a fine grater to the beans. This will give the finished dish a stunning flavor and a new facet of taste. And hops-sunels can be easily replaced with any other mixture of dried herbs to choose from. After all, beans are fertile ground for experiments.
If there are no red beans at hand, feel free to take the white one. The cooking technology is absolutely the same. And the taste of these two varieties does not differ at all.
Bon appetit!
