Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 40 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to make sweet chicken in Chinese? Prepare all the necessary products. You can take any chicken parts, with or without bones. Both thighs and breast are perfect. If necessary, defrost the chicken in advance. Ideally, rice vinegar, but you can use both apple and wine vinegar. Soy sauce use natural fermentation. Now there are a lot of cheap fakes of soy sauce, I advise you to take a more expensive, but natural one.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Wash the chicken well, cut into medium-sized pieces. You can remove the skin and bones, or you can leave them.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Transfer the chicken meat to a separate bowl. Pour soy sauce over the chicken and leave for 10-15 minutes to soak it well.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan. It can be absolutely anything: from ordinary sunflower to elite olive. The only condition: if you are going to fry in this oil, then it must be refined. Otherwise, it will burn. Add the chicken to the pan and fry it quickly over a sufficiently high heat.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Peel the onion and cut it into thin feathers. Wash the carrots, peel and cut into thin strips. You can cut carrots manually, or you can use a special grater or a combine for cutting into strips.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Add carrots to the pan to the chicken first, fry it on low heat for about 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7.

Add the chopped onion to the carrots, mix. Chop the garlic: you can grate it or pass it through a press, but I just chopped it with a knife. Garlic is also sent to the frying pan. Reduce the heat and cook for another 5-7 minutes.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8.

Pour vinegar to meat and vegetables, add honey. Mix it up.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9.

Dissolve starch in 50 ml of cold water. It can be any: both potato and corn. Since starch is used here to thicken the dish, it is quite possible to replace it with flour.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10.

Pour starch and water into the pan.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11.

Simmer the dish on the stove for about 5-7 minutes, until the sauce thickens. At the very end, add salt. Keep in mind that soy sauce is salty enough, so don't over-salt it!

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12.

Serve sweet chicken in Chinese as an independent dish or with a side dish (rice will be an ideal side dish!). Enjoy your meal!

Any oils are useful only until a certain temperature is reached - the point of smoking, at which the oil begins to burn and toxic substances, including carcinogens, are formed in it. How to determine the roasting temperature and choose the best oil for frying, and which is better not to use at all, read here .

Important! An incorrectly selected frying pan can ruin even the best recipe. All the details on how to choose the perfect frying pan for different dishes read here .

When adding soy sauce to a dish, it is worth considering that it has a rather salty taste. Reduce the total amount of salt, otherwise you risk over-salting.
