Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

Prepare the ingredients. To make corn tortillas from corn flour, we will need: 200 ml boiling water; 200 g corn flour; 2 tbsp vegetable oil; 1 tsp salt.

Sift corn flour into a deep bowl. Add salt and mix.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Make a small depression in the flour and pour in a little boiling water. It is very important not to pour all the boiling water at once, because depending on the consistency of the dough, it may need less. Gradually knead a very pliable dough. The dough should not be homogeneous and will crumble in the hands. Therefore, it is impossible to roll it out with a rolling pin.

Therefore, corn tortillas need to be formed by hand. The blanks should be small oval or round with a thickness of about 5 mm.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Lay out the prepared corn blanks. Fry the tortillas over medium heat for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Then turn the tortillas over and fry on the other side for about 5 more minutes.

    Step 6.

Put the finished corn tortillas on a plate and serve to the table. Bon appetit!

My family loves corn bread very much. Therefore, when I visit large hypermarkets where it is baked right on the spot, I usually definitely buy it.
However, lately I prefer homemade bread to store-bought bread, so corn flour is always found in the house. And sometimes it happens that there is very little flour left from the pack, from which you can't bake a full-fledged bread, or throw it away - because it's a pity.
So I started frying small corn tortillas from such leftovers. Sometimes I make them salty, sometimes sweet. And sometimes both are fried in the same pan. And then the game begins at the table - who gets what.
The recipe for tortillas is simple to the point of banality and requires only three ingredients: flour, water and salt or sugar. Ah, vegetable oil for frying.
By the way, it is not necessary to buy corn flour at exorbitant prices in the store - you can grind it in a coffee grinder yourself from corn groats, the price of which is 20 rubles per pack.

Corn flour is an excellent analogue of wheat flour. It lacks gluten (or gluten), which is activated in wheat flour and provides products with elasticity, splendor and uniformity. However, gluten-free baking is considered more useful.
