Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

To prepare compote, wash the apples well and cut into 4 parts. Remove the core from them.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Cut the apples into small slices, put them in a prepared saucepan and fill with water. Put the pan on the fire and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Then add any jam to the apples in the pan. I use strawberry jam. I have the berries boiled in it and preserved as a whole. The available syrup is quite enough for compote.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Add some citric acid. This is necessary so that the drink is not sickly sweet. Citric acid normalizes its taste. Taste it. If the compote is not sweet enough, add a little sugar. Bring everything to a boil and remove from heat. Cover the pot with a lid and let it stand for 15 minutes.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Strain the finished compote and pour it into a decanter. Have a nice treat!

If you still have jam blanks that have been standing for several, then do not rush to throw them away. They can be used to make a very tasty, everyday drink - compote.
For compote, it is best to use jam, in which there is a sufficient amount of syrup, and the pulp of the fruit is not boiled. Otherwise, you will have to filter the compote very carefully so that it becomes transparent.
The preparation of such compote is usually in demand when the prepared compote in cans has already ended, and the season of fresh berries and fruits has not yet begun.
If you just mix jam with water, then there will be a cloudy foam on the surface, which is not very pleasant, purely aesthetically. Therefore, I recommend, nevertheless, to bring it to a boil.
To add a spicy taste to the compote, when cooking, add a little cinnamon, cloves, cardamom to it. Just do not put everything at once, so as not to clog the main flavor and taste. 1-2 additional ingredients are enough.
If you use different types of jam, you can always get a new taste.
